Destination weddings are definitely the new way to get hitched! There are so many pluses to a destination wedding like having your ceremony in a beautiful location, they cost less than a traditional wedding, and you can kick off the honeymoon after the reception! The idea of traveling away from your hometown to an exotic island for a wedding is appealing to many couples. Whether you are traveling alone with your significant other or inviting along close family and friends, you can’t go wrong with a gorgeous destination wedding. The next step is to decide where to get married and what kind of experience you want for yourselves or for your guests. We have researched several of the top places for destination weddings and included the atmosphere and fun things to do while there. Enjoy!

Jamaica

A destination wedding on the beautiful island of Jamaica encompasses the total package of a friendly laid back environment, white sandy beaches and majestic waterfalls. There are several parts of this Caribbean island to enjoy including Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, and Treasure Beach that all offer unique and beautiful venues for an outdoor wedding event. Personally, I’d check out Montego bay- there are so many things to do like shopping, nightlife and spectacular beaches to enjoy while spending time in Jamaica for your wedding!

Costa Rica

Costa Rica offers a unique venue for a destination wedding. Being a small country in the Caribbean, it takes only a few hours to drive from one end of the isthmus to the other. In one day you could surf the black sand beaches on the Pacific side and enjoy a sunset dinner on the Caribbean side! Costa Rica offers not only it’s beach appeal for the soon to be newlyweds but if you’re more of an adventurous couple you can get married in front of a volcano in the rainforest! This venue is definitely for a couple who is looking for a destination wedding out of the box!  If Costa Rica is your ideal destination wedding spot check out OurCostaRicaWedding.com and speak with their fabulous wedding planner, Meghan Cox.

Hawaii

For a destination wedding right in the U.S., Hawaii is definitely a must! Oahu, Maui and Waikiki offer various wedding experiences. In Oahu, you can explore cities and towns not far from the beach or visit the state’s capital, Honolulu. Close by is Waikiki beach appealing to the active couple- whether beginner or advanced this is a must to experience amazing Hawaiian surfing. Maui, one of the top places for destination weddings in Hawaii is a great place for relaxing on the beach or taking in the phenomenal scenery with a drive through the island. There are also numerous state parks in Maui that offer trails for hiking and camping. Hawaii is definitely high on my list of destination hot spots!

Mexico

Mexico is home to so many beautiful venue options for a destination wedding. Cancun, though known for its party scene, is a great place for couples to explore outdoors in under water caves or diving the Maya reef- the second largest reef in the world, the historic Mayan Ruins or downtown for great shopping. Ixtapa, a fishing town on the Pacific coast of Mexico incorporates a nautical vibe for a destination wedding. You can enjoy the local seafood cuisine fresh caught every morning, tour the cobblestone streets of Zihuatanejo, and take a romantic boat ride with picturesque views and dolphins swimming by! If you’re looking for something different there’s Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel, Acapulco and many more! Mexico offers a destination wedding for any experience a couple could ask for!

U.S. Virgin Islands

The U.S. Virgins Islands are made up of St. John, St. Croix, and St. Thomas, an amazing trio of islands for an ultimate destination wedding.  St. John is the perfect combination of a secluded retreat by the beach with the amenities of shopping and local restaurants.  The largest USVI St. Croix is home to historic Christiansted which is overflowing with rich culture of the arts, historic churches and creative cuisine. St. Croix is filled with so much wildlife; if you’re into snorkeling with seahorses or visiting ecological preserves with endangered sea turtles, this is definitely a cool island to explore! Lastly, St. Thomas the most popular island of the three is a fantastic place for a destination wedding. After getting hitched on one of the many beautiful beaches, you can discover an old pirate captain’s castle, the view from the 99 steps of Charlotte Amalie, and cathedrals filled with historic artwork. Whether you’re into relaxing by the beach or discovering rich history, the USVI are a great trio of islands for any destination wedding!

These top 5 destination wedding locations are sure to delight any couple looking for adventure, history, or romantic getaway nuptials. When considering where you’ll go, the dress and groom’s attire, the décor and perfect setting are all important. For the bride on her special day, foot jewelry is the perfect addition to any wedding dress. Looking to have your bridesmaids sparkle? Custom Bec’s Beach Feet can be made to match any bride’s or bridesmaid’s dresses. They also make the perfect gift for the mother of the bride and groom! We are heading to Kauai for the second time in November, and I will be wearing my barefoot sandals from Bec's! i'm so hoping for a surprise wedding from my babe ... we've been together 10 years and it would be my dream come true! thank you for the opportunity to win, and for having such an amazing selection .. the best on the web!! :)

I like the idea of a destination wedding. But for me, I wanted more or my family and friends to be able to attend so I stayed local. And I was barefoot when I said I do!👣 My mom hated the fact that I didn't wear shoes!

I think a destination wedding would be a beautiful, fun experience if you wanted a small wedding. I know most of my friends/family probably wouldn't be able to attend because of the cost of traveling to some of those locales + cost of passport for some. I know there are some beautiful "destinations" closer to home tho definitely less exotic lol. Although the added benefit of already being where you are going to honeymoon is a plus.

Love Destination weddings! My sister got married in Mexico, Riviera Maya, in September 2003. Me & hubby had JUST got married, so we waited & threw our honeymoon in with her wedding! We were there for 10 days! We stayed at the Moon Palace. We've been back to Mexico, and stayed in Playa Del Carmen, last September. It was VERY nice, but NOTHING could compare to the Moon Palace! All inclusive is the way to go. There are extra fees for the wedding & reception, but as you said, much cheaper than in the states! The ceremony by the ocean was BEAUTIFUL! Our family came down with us! We had about 25 people out there! What a blast! BTW, the food, service, rooms, pools (yes plural) were all 5-star! Highly recommend Mexico!

I would love to have had a destination wedding, but then my family would not have been able to afford to go. If we ever decide to renew our vows, I'm thinking it shall be on the beach! 😉

I am a Justice of the Peace, I truly love the beach. So a barefoot beach wedding is always so pleasurable for me. If I were to ever do it again myself, a destination beach wedding would be my first choice.

I think destinations wedding are very pretty. I wish I could have had a destination wedding. I would have gotten married in Hawaii on the beach with some white Bec's beach feet sandals on of course. I have 2 pairs of your beach feet sandals already I just love them I can't wait to order more soon.

I think destination weddings are a great way for those who want to keep it small and intimate. While I have too many people that I would want to invite to a wedding, I would love to attend one someday and a pair of Beach feet would be the perfect accessory!

Oh what a terrific article! Well written with informative links! These made me think of our very own Florida also, which offers wonderful little island weddings, such as Amelia & Sanibel... would love to see you write an article covering those as well, may be more do-able... but these destinations are oh so dreamy! Thank you for posting this! Great blog with great ideas!
